PPL Electric Utilities plans to build a new electric substation in Northampton County next year — one of 10 in the utility company’s service area expected to be finished over the next two years. The power company hopes to begin construction in March on the substation in Moore Township and finish it by November 2011, officials said. The new substations, including the Schoeneck (pronounced SHEN-ick) substation in Lower Macungie Township expected to be completed this year, are designed to meet beefed-up demand and improve reliability for thousands of customers in eastern and central Pennsylvania, PPL says.
